FLX Restaurant Week: The Cellar

the Cellar (3)

The Cellar

, located on Market Street in the heart of downtown Corning, opened its doors in 2007 as a wine and tapas bar and has since grown to a full service dining establishment known for innovative cuisine, an impressive wine list as well as a unique list of custom cocktails and a sultry vibe.

In the kitchen, Owner/Executive Chef, Michael Lanahan, creates modern fusion cuisine with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Michael has created relationships with over ten farms that provide produce and other ingredients for his menus. He and his team have thoughtfully crafted a wine list that features forty wines by the glass and over 100 by the bottle from all over the world, including many award-winning wines from the Finger Lakes.

For the past two years, The Cellar has received an “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator which awards restaurants with wine lists that offer a “well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.”

The cocktail list is equally impressive. The talented bartenders constantly mix up new and interesting martinis and cocktails using house-made infusions, herbs and spirits.

The CellarFor Restaurant Week, Michael has created a delectable fall dinner menu. For appetizers, choose from a hearty Corn Chowder or a fresh mixed green salad with roasted beets, chevre, pumpkin seeds, and a Himrod grape vinaigrette. Dinner offers meat and vegetarian options – both of which include McKenzie Bourbon from Finger Lakes Distilling.

First up is Slow Roasted Pork Belly from Blue Heron Acres. It is served with smoked apple cheddar grits, garlic dinosaur kale, and a bourbon pan sauce. For the vegetarian option, Chef Michael has fancied up a mouth-watering combination of fall veggies including caramelized smoked carrots and McKenzie Bourbon glazed cipollini onions with a husk cherry chutney, Kubota squash puree, garlic dinosaur kale, and roasted pumpkin seeds.

Last, and certainly not least, is dessert – a decadent poached pear served alongside a scoop of homemade ginger ice cream.
