Sorge's Restaurant Reclaims Guinness World Record

Corning's Gaffer District is proud to congratulate Sorge's Restaurant on their recent record-breaking achievement.

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, the Sorge family attempted to reclaim a Guinness World Record that it held ten years earlier. For the restaurant's 50th anniversary, celebrated in 2001, the eatery successful made the world's longest egg noodle, measuring at 400 feet. In the past decade, the title was stolen by a restaurant in Japan. With their sights set on reclaiming their place in culinary records, more than 150 people gathered in the parking lot behind the restaurant on Saturday, June 4th for the celebration.

With an official from the Steuben County Bureau of Weights and Measures standing by, a crowd of staff, customers, and volunteers helped lay out the noodle in a delicate process that took nearly three hours. When all was complete, the final noodle measured 525 feet. On Thursday, July 29th, co-owner Mike Sorge received a certificate from Guinness World Records, formally accepting the new record.

Co-owner Mike Sorge notes, "We're so grateful to have the continued support of our family, friends and customers behind us. We're excited to hold the title once again and to have shared a great, fun day with our guests." Sorge notes that the record will be listed in the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records.

A landmark restaurant for locals and tourists alike, Sorge's Restaurant is located at 68 West Market Street. The restaurant is owned by Mike and Christine Sorge.
