New winery opens on the east side of Seneca Lake

We are thrilled that a new winery has opened in Finger Lakes Wine Country along the eastern shores of Seneca Lake down the road from Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards.  Hector Wine Company located at 5610 State Route 414 in Hector is co-owned Jason Hazlitt and Justin Boyette.  The winery is currently offering six wines from the 2009 vintage including a Riesling, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Dry Rosé, and Soul Red (a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.) ranging from $14-$25 per bottle.

Both Jason and Justin have a strong history of grapegrowing and winemaking in the Finger Lakes.  Jason's family owns Sawmill Creek Vineyard, a vineyard source for some of the mostly highly regarded Finger Lakes wines and  his extended family owns the popular Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards nearby.  Justin has worked as a winemaker for Red Newt Cellars and Atwater Vineyards among others.   The winery's current wine production is 1,000 cases with a long-term goal of 6,000 cases in the coming years.

The tasting room is open year-round, though winter hours will take affect beginning in January.   For the remainder of the year the  winery's hours are Thursday - Saturday 11AM-7PM and Sunday - Wednesday 11AM-6PM. For more information call (607) 387-1045. According to Jason, a Web site is in the works but you can see more photos of the winery on their Facebook fanpage.
