Finger Lakes Wine Country is a world-class wine producing region for cool climate wines like Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and ice wine. Ice wines are especially cherished in our region because they can't be made in all vintages (you need precise cold weather to freeze the grapes on the vine) and are often produced in small quantities. Ice wines are usually bottled in smaller 375ml. bottles and best enjoyed as a dessert wine. Some highly regarded ice wines producers in the Finger Lakes include
Hunt Country Vineyards, Sheldrake Point Vineyard, and
Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards.
Recently the
2007 Vidal Blanc Ice Wine from Hunt County Vineyards
received a 95 rating (exceptional) from the Beverage Testing Institute. Priced at $39.95 this wine is an incredible value and would make a lovely addition to a holiday meal or a perfect gift for a wine lover on your holiday list.
